The Treasured Black Truffle - scientific name TUBER MELANOSPORUM VITT – is also known as Norcia or Spoleto Truffle or "Truffe noir précieuse" for French people. It looks uniform and round, with polygonal warts. When rubbed, the blackish brown colour of its surface can take on rust nuances. The flesh (gleba) is bright, the aroma strong, aromatic and fruity. It grows in hill and mountain areas and lives in symbiosis with hazelnut, oak and English oak trees. It is considered the second most commercially valuable species and it is one of the leading tuber in the international cuisine.
